Concept and history of the brand

My name is Anaïs, I created my brand of handmade clothing and today I hope, thanks to this, to be able to raise your awareness on the subject of consumption as well as the environment by promoting a new, healthier way of consuming. .

How did I get there?

We've all found ourselves standing in front of our wardrobe and thinking, "What am I going to wear today?" » while the latter is filled with clothes.

When I was 2 years old, I found myself in this situation almost every day without knowing what to choose and without ever feeling good in the pieces I wore. Because ultimately, I found myself wearing the same clothes as everyone else and I had the impression of blending in, without being able to have my own style. I was constantly buying in the hope of finding a style that I liked, some favorite pieces, but in vain they all ended up at the bottom of the closet.

Then one day I said to myself “why not create my own clothes, why not make pretty pieces that I will be sure to wear, rather than buying astronomical quantities of clothes that I will probably never wear and which will perhaps end up thrown away? »

The problem was that I had no knowledge of sewing nor any financial means, as a student, to buy the materials necessary for this activity.

But I still decided to take an interest in this environment. So I spent entire evenings watching videos, sewing tutorials, hours taking an interest in this creative activity.

A few months later I received my first sewing machine for Christmas.

The happiest in the world, I decided to launch myself and exploit my creativity, I developed my skills on my own, I learned on my own, and finally after several weeks, I decided to start creating my own clothes.

Upcycling

Despite this renewal in my life and my joy at being able to sew what I wanted, I asked myself the following question “what is the point of creating my handmade clothes to reduce my consumption, if all the same I continue to buy fabrics new in stores”?

That’s when the idea came to me! Start upcycling .

But what is upcycling? It's simply the act of using old clothes, sheets, accessories, objects or fabrics in order to transform them to give them new life!

I couldn't find a better solution than using the clothes I already had or old household sheets to create new things, because in addition to reducing my consumption, I avoided fabrics from being thrown away. !

Proud of my idea, I created my first dress from a duvet cover bought second hand. I shared it with you on the networks, and there, surprised, I received incredible positive feedback from you which motivated me all the more to continue my work. So I continued sewing and upcycling in different ways and started developing my skills.

And here I am finally 1 year later, with my online store.

Why Novana?

You will surely tell me, why create a clothing brand if my primary goal is to encourage you to reduce your consumption?

Simply because through my brand I would like to offer you striking pieces that are different from what we are used to wearing, trying to raise awareness of the fact that, even if, of course, completely stopping consumption is impossible, we can all consume in a better way. For example, by buying small quantities of good quality clothing that we will really appreciate for their authenticity and their history, rather than hundreds of pieces purchased in fast fashion that we will never have the opportunity to wear all of them and which will pile up over the years.

Obviously we are always tempted to consume in large quantities given the attractive prices on the foreign market, but we often forget that favoring quality over quantity, and consuming Made in France allows us to preserve our planet a little more and not encourage the exploitation of workers in foreign factories and their harsh working conditions.

Upcycling for me, when used wisely and mastered, is a real way of being able to improve our consumption, by using what we have on hand instead of constantly consuming because of trends and fashion which pushes us to buy sustainably.

And consuming upcycling means consuming yes, but consuming more healthily, and in a more ethical way!

I encourage you to think about it, to reuse your old clothes, to consume in small quantities or made in France, because every gesture counts, and together we can really help move things forward!

My adventure in upcycling and sewing is only just beginning, and it is far from over.

I look forward to sharing with you and sending you new things every day, hoping to convince you that fashion is not just about buying the trendy items of the moment in large quantities, but rather about buying intelligently, in small quantities, and revive your clothes, your accessories and even your sheets by reusing them over the years in multiple ways!

Every gesture counts <3
